Statement of Faith

A detailed summary of the biblical truths we hold dear and seek to live by as a community of believers.

01

The Scripture

Inspiration

We believe that all Scripture is breathed out by God (), which means that holy men of God were moved by the Holy Spirit to write the very words of Scripture (). The Holy Spirit exerted supernatural influence on the human authors so that, using their own personalities and styles of writing, they wrote down precisely what God wanted to give to mankind as Scripture.

Canon

We believe that this divine inspiration extends equally and fully to all the sixty-six books of the Bible—the thirty-nine in the Old Testament along with the twenty-seven in the New Testament.

Inerrancy

We believe that the Bible in its original writings is inerrant and completely truthful in all its affirmations. This is because God, who does not lie (; ), has spoken through the Bible. It accurately reflects God’s intended message and therefore, it is absolutely trustworthy. The Scriptures are the only infallible rule of faith and practice.

Characteristics

We believe that the Bible is the authoritative divine communication to man, which is sufficient, clear, and necessary to impart instruction, encouragement (; ), and the knowledge of God so that we may have all things that pertain to life and godliness ().

Bear Witness about Christ

We believe that Scriptures, including even the Old Testament, bear witness about the Lord Jesus Christ—His person and work in His first and second coming (; ; ; ; ; ).

02

The Godhead

Yahweh – the one true God

We believe in Yahweh, the one () and the only true God (), the Creator () and Sustainer of all things ().

Divine Attributes

Along with other divine attributes, the Bible reveals that God is infinite (), eternal (), incomprehensible (), almighty (), immutable (), most wise (), most holy (), compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth ().

Trinity

We believe that in the Being of God, there are three distinct and divine Persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (; ): the Father is of none, neither begotten, not proceeding; the Son is eternally begotten of the Father; () the Holy Spirit eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son (, ). These three Persons are of one nature (or essence), having precisely the same attributes (; ), and are worthy of the same reverence, trust, and obedience ().

03

God the Father

God the Father

We believe that God the Father is the one from whom are all things and for whom we exist (). As an infinitely loving () Father, He graciously planned () and made provision for our salvation () through the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ (). He adopts () everyone who receives the Son () and relates to them as their Father ().

04

God the Son

Divine Person

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, the second person of the Trinity, of one substance and equal with the Father, the true God from true God, begotten and not made (The Nicene Creed, 325 AD).

Incarnation

We believe that God the Son became man (). The man Jesus, the promised Messiah of Israel, was conceived through the miraculous agency of the Holy Spirit and was born of the virgin Mary (). The eternal Word became flesh so that He might manifest God to men (), and become the Savior of mankind (). He is the only mediator between God and man ().

Union of Two Natures

Jesus Christ is true God and true Man, in perfect union throughout His incarnation and now eternally. In the one person of Christ, the divine nature and the human nature are without confusion, without change, without division, or without separation (The Chalcedonian Definition, 451 AD).

Redemptive Work

We believe that Jesus lived a perfect and sinless life (; ; ) on earth. After which, according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God () and as attested in the prophecies of the Scriptures (), He was crucified under Pontius Pilate (), was buried (), arose bodily from the dead on the third day (), ascended into heaven (), is seated at the right hand of the Father (), and is living forever to make intercession () for His people as the great High Priest ().

05

God the Holy Spirit

Divine Person

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the blessed Trinity, of one substance and equal with the Father and the Son, possessing all the attributes of God. Just like the Father and the Son, the Bible shows that the Holy Spirit is a divine Person (; ), He speaks and commands (; ; ), He has a will (), He has a mind (), He is omniscient (), and He can be sinned against (; ; ; ).

Indwelling

We believe that the Holy Spirit is indwelling in God’s people () in a special sense from the day of Pentecost () according to the divine promise (; ). Unlike the OT times, He now dwells in each and every believer forever (). He is the source of all power () and all acceptable worship () and service ().

Distinct Ministries

We believe that the Holy Spirit is doing well-defined ministries in our age: the convicting of the world concerning sin, righteousness, and judgment (); the glorifying and testifying of Christ (); the regenerating of all believers (); the baptizing of all the saved into the one body of Christ (); the indwelling () and anointing of all who are saved (), thereby sealing them unto the day of redemption (); the distribution of spiritual gifts to all believers (); and the continued filling () in those who are yielded to Him.

06

Man

Creation and Purpose

We believe that man, male and female (), was originally created in the image and after the likeness of God () for the purpose of glorifying God (; ) and enjoying Him forever (; ).

The Fall

Our first parents were happy in their communion with God, and had dominion over the earth (). They received a command, not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (), but they sinned by eating the forbidden fruit (), and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death () for all ().

07

Sin

Definition

The term ‘sin’ refers to any failure to conform to the word of God in one’s actions, words, attitudes, or nature (; ; ; ).

Universal Depravity

Man became dead in trespasses and sins and became subject to the power of the devil (). We believe that the depravity of human nature (; ), has been transmitted to the entire human race (), and the only exception is the Man Christ Jesus (). Every child () born into the world has a sinful nature and is spiritually dead in trespasses apart from divine grace (; ).

08

Salvation

By Grace through Christ

We believe that our salvation is wholly of God by grace () on the basis of the redemption in Jesus Christ () and not on the basis of human merits or works, for it is the gift of God (). This redemption is only through Jesus Christ (; ) since it is He who was forsaken by God () for our sake, and has died for us (), and has redeemed us by His precious blood ().

Human Response and Spiritual Birth

We believe that whoever () repents of their sins and trusts in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins () has undergone a born again experience (), has become a child of God (), has been sealed with the Holy Spirit () and has become a new creation (). The security and assurance of salvation of a believer are grounded wholly upon the testimony of God’s written Word ().

09

Eternity

Death and Judgment

We believe that man is born in the flesh only once, will die, and then face judgment and eternity (; ).

Christian Hope

While being alive, the blessed hope () and awaiting () of Christians is the coming of Christ in the air to receive His own who are alive, and also all who have fallen asleep in Him (; ; ).

Believers after Death

We believe that at death believers will enter immediately into the presence of Christ (). They will be in a state of conscious bliss (; ) as they await the resurrection of their glorified bodies, which will be suitable for their existence in the eternal state (). The heavenly city, which will come down out of heaven (), will be the dwelling place of the saints, where they will enjoy forever fellowship with God and one another (–22). Life in the new heavens and the new earth will markedly be different from what is experienced in this world (; ). The curse that came with sin will never hold sway again (). There God will entrust them with various responsibilities like serving God (); exercising authority (); ruling or being put in charge (); and reigning (; ).

Unbelievers after Death

However, the unbelieving remain after death conscious of condemnation and in misery until the final judgment of the great white throne (), when soul and body are reunited and are cast into the lake of fire, not to be annihilated, but to be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord ().

10

Church

Universal Church

We believe that by putting one’s trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, an individual becomes part of one spiritual body (), i.e. the church, of which Christ is the Head (). Jesus Christ is committed to build His church (), which is also identified in Scriptures by names such as the household of God (), the bride of Christ (), the flock of God (), and it consists of all true believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Local Church

We believe in the establishment of the local churches as taught in the New Testament (; ; ; ). A local church is the local and visible expression of this universal church, consisting of professing believers in a specific geographical location, having committed themselves to congregate together () and observe all that their Lord has commanded them (). Every believer should be a part of a particular local church and function as an active member according to the grace given by God for the edification of the other believers in that local church ().

Governance and Leadership

We believe in the autonomy of the local church, having the right of self-government under the leadership of the elders assisted by the deacons (; ), both of whom must meet the biblical qualifications (; ). The office of elders () is restricted to men. The elders serve the church in spiritual matters. They have the Lord’s authority to lead () and shepherd () the church, and to oversee () the church affairs. All the church members should submit to them (). The deacons serve the church in physical matters.
